How Are Newborn Sessions Scheduled?

One of the questions that I get asked the most often as a South Shore Newborn Photographer is "How do you book newborn sessions when you don't know when the baby will be born?" It's a fair question, because no one know exactly when babies will arrive, especially several months out when people are typically looking to book a newborn session. What if you have the baby early or late, or you need to stay in the hospital a little longer than expected? There are so many unknowns that the thought of booking a newborn session can be overwhelming. But the process is actually really simple!

I offer two different types of newborn sessions here on the South Shore of Massachusetts: a Lifestyle Newborn Session, which is an in-home family session that can be done any time in the first month or so after baby is born. The other is a Traditional Newborn Session, which also takes place in your home and has to be done before baby is two weeks old. In this session type, I wrap and pose the baby in simple poses for about half the session, and this requires baby to be as sleepy as possible for ease of posing in the time we have. After two weeks old, baby's sleep cycle starts to form, and this means they "wake up" a bit and won't stay in that super deep sleep needed to pose the baby. To book either session type, the process is the same:

-Book the Newborn Session date in my online booking calendar (https://www.kristenhourihanphotography.com/book-online) that is the closest to your due date. Select the session type that you want. If you are undecided, just put that in the message section of the booking form.

-Pay the deposit of $50. This ensures your spot on my calendar for a newborn session.

-Once baby is born, you let me know via email! We will work together to find a weekday morning to get your newborn session on the calendar once you are home from the hospital. That's it! So easy!

I keep my calendar open to only about 4-6 newborns a month, this way I can be flexible for booking the actual sessions. Sometimes unexpected things come up--older siblings get sick, mom or baby has to be re-admitted to the hospital, your hospital stay is longer than anticipated. All of that is fine and are situations that I have managed in the past. I understand that life happens and I can be flexible for any situation to arise. Sometimes it means you decide to change your session type from a Traditional Session to a Lifestyle Session and that is more than ok. I just want you to have photographs of this incredibly short and special time of your lives.

Does it surprise you how easy it is?? I hope that this alleviates some of the overwhelm when thinking of a newborn session! Still have questions? Please email me at any time! info@kristenhourihanphotography.com
